A meeting has been taking place in Dublin to hammer out an international treaty to ban cluster bombs, sadly Australia has been pushing for some exemptions in the treaty though.

The traffic in Sydney’s CBD was at snails pace last Saturday, as over a hundred protest riders made their way through the city streets. The Ride of Silence is an international memorial event which honours cyclists maimed or killed on our roads. Kate Pinnock spoke to the Green’s Lee Rhiannon who says the NSW Minister for Transport Eric Rosendahl is not taking bike riders issues seriously. She’s highly critical of the minister’s suggestion to ban cyclists in Sydney’s peak hour traffic.

Alot of people have their heads in the sand over this notion of ‘Peak Oil’, basically it means that we have reached the peak (or nearly) of oil production and the worlds oil reserves will start running out… meaning less oil to go around, and therefore higher prices. Whether we have reached the peak, passed the peak or are still to reach the peak, it makes no difference, we will sometime (probably sooner than later) run out of oil.

Needle exchange programs within the community exist to minimize and prevent the spread of infections such as Hepatitis C and HIV through the shared use of needles by illicit drug users. But within Australia’s prisons system no such exchange programs exist.
The Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League (AIVL) is calling on Federal, State and Territory Governments to implement exchange schemes within prisons. They argue that a person’s capacity to access health services should not be compromised due to imprisonment and that services within prisons should be to the same standard as those provided in the community

A new survey of internet consumer trends has found that people with braodband internet connections spend more time on the net than watching television. It found that broadband users spend on average 22 hours surfing the net, 14 hours watching tv.
