How do you obtain your news? Radio, Television, Newspaper or the internet? Information is now being obtained in various ways around the globe and the ABC has decided to use this knowledge along with the internet to create a program called ABC Earth. It’s a trial that consists of video, images and content developed by the ABC with a layer that includes national news updated every 5 minutes by clicking on a 3D globe of the Earth…

Calling Australia Home

Discussions about refugees often involve a very clinical academic, or government point of view – or worse, a negative one. 

Last week on Breakfast, Kathryn Jensen spoke with KEVIN LISTON, Director of the Australian Refugee Association coinciding with World Refugee Day.  Kathryn began by asking him when a person officially stops being known as a refugee and becomes a new Australian.

I was struck by the element of human compassion he put back into the subject..

New plan to tackle homelessness in Dublin

Celia reported this morning in a 5 year plan the Irish Governement is considering tackling homelssness. It’s a strategy that will see a shift towards private rented accomodation rather than a reliance on emergency hostel beds.

Teacher’s Strike – Interview with Unley Primary Principal

A wave of red swept through the city yesterday, as an Australian Education Union organised teacher strike brought the streets to a standstill. The union is angered by the South Australian government’s latest enterprise bargaining offer for public school, preschool and TAFE employees. The AEU is demanding further negotiations with the government, aiming for higher wages, smaller class sizes, and fairier workloads. Alex Cothren joined the marching teachers, and then grabbed one to chat with in the radio Adelaide studios…

‘The Big Issue’ Celebrates 250,000!

Yesterday, National street magazine The Big Issue celebrated the milestone of selling 250,000 copies in South Australia since its launch in 2002. Local politicians, Natash Stott Despoja, Dana Wortley, Nick Xenophon, Cory Bernardi and Sarah Hanson-Young joined Big Issue vendors in Rundle Mall to celebrate the milestone of the magazine which is sold by the homeless and unemployed in an effort to give them a chance to get back on their feet. Friday Producer, Mel Mahony joined the celebrations..

UK University here in Adelaide

Celia reported this morning on the University College London about to open its doors here in Adelaide and a group of 1,000 kids arrived at Shannon airport to begin a recuperative holiday. These are kids living in Belarus that have developed a range of illnesses related to the radiation from the Chernobyl disaster.

The Business Olympian

English wicket keeper Paul Nixon said, “In sport we’ve worked on our bodies for the last one hundred years and taken it as far as we can go.  I think we’ll be working on our minds for the next hundred”

With longer working hours these days, the same could be said for those of us in the business world.  GAVIN FREEMAN  understands. Gavin was the team psychologist for the Australian Winter Olympic team in 2006, the Paralympic games in 2000 and our archery team in 2000. He thinks the same mental preparation techniques used by athletes can be applied in Business.  And no.. we are not just talking stapler shot-put or aiming a javelin at your boss! Gavin is now the author of a new book, THE BUSINESS OLYMPIAN and he explained the concept to Kathryn Jensen..
