24 Hour Sweep

I don’t know if it’s just me, but when searching or shopping online, I find myself being more suspicious of the advertising than I ever am when seeing advertisements on television, in the paper or on radio. It would seem that we still view advertising on traditional forms media as having stricter standards of regulation when, in fact, that is not the case.

Websites are held to the same standards and laws as television and radio commercials when it comes to substantiating the claims they make, and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is on a mission to quash the misleading messages that promise body enhancements or get rich quick schemes.

The ACCC joined several other Consumer Protection bodies across Australia as well as worldwide to identify what they say are “deceptive and potentially fraudulent websites” from 11am Monday the 22nd of September to 11am Tuesday and here Deputy Chair of the ACCC Peter Kell talks about the sweep.

Senate inquiry into problem gambling and pokies

The impact of poker machines on problem gamblers was examined at a recent Senate Committee inquiry. Also under the spotlight was the Poker Machine Harm Minimisation bill introduced to parliament by Family First Senator, Steve Fielding earlier this year.

We spoke to Jeremy Bath from Clubs Australia who believes the impact is not as great as being suggested…
