To marry, or not to marry?

In the past 6 months, around 18,000 gay and lesbian couples married in California after that state legalised same sex marriages. Last week as Barack Obama was elected to office in the U.S. heralding a new era for Americans, Californians voted on Proposition 8, in effect a referendum, which in this case was to amend the constitution to a definition of marriage as taking place between a man and a woman.

The result was that same sex marriages in California are now not legal.

So, how important is marriage? Amy Murphy-Higgins is presenting a forum this weekend as part of the Feast Festival titled, “LOVED UP: Queer marriage 1 year on”, where she will explore the debate of the importance of marriage for same sex couples.

She joined us on breakfast this morning to start that discussion…
