In recent days there’s been much discussion on paternity DNA testing after the Rudd government’s proposal to introduce new legislation that would make it impossible without the mothers consent.
If adopted, the DNA theft laws would make it illegal to conduct a genetic test on a sample without consent and to disclose the results of any such test and could result in a jail term for any breach of this law.
Understandably many groups are opposed to the proposed legislation saying it’s a breach of civil rights for fathers who may be raising a child who is not theirs.
