The SACE Board claims that the new SACE gives students greater flexibility in making subject choices, and promotes individual learning and research skills.
Under the new certificate, students will be able to choose to take a traditional mix of subjects including English, Maths and Modern History, or to specialize, take vocational courses, or work to a timetable which includes both vocational and traditional subjects.
English, under the new SACE, will not be compulsory. English will also continue to be offered in a number of different ways at both Year 11 and 12.
Alison Robertson, President of the South Australian English Teachers’ Association, joins Breakfast to discuss the way English will be taught in the later years of high school in South Australian schools.
