Coral Sea Marine Park

The Great Barrier Reef, in the Coral Sea, has since 1975 been listed as a Marine Park and a World Heritage site since 1981.

There are now calls by Marine Groups to create another Marine Park adjacent to the Reef Park which would incorporate all of the Coral Sea, almost one million square kilometers.

Today Jess Wingard spoke with Daisy Barham, Coral Sea Campaigner with the Australian Marine Conservation Society and asked her ‘why such a large area is proposed’?

Japan Earthquake Toll Climbs.

The 8.9 magnitude Earthquake and subsequent Tsunami that struck Japan on Friday devastated a large area of the country’s Eastern coast.

With the death toll rising and International Search and Rescue teams pouring in, the biggest concern now is the threat to the Nuclear Power plant which could potentially ‘Meltdown’.

Today Jess Wingard spoke with Emiko Ishii in Japan for an update on the situation.

Who is stealing the Carbon Credits?

A long-overdue clampdown on security in the carbon trading exchange has been promised by the European Commission’s Climate Change Committee.

In recent times million of pounds worth credits have been stolen from carbon alliance banks in        Europe and sold on the black market.

Dermot Smyth discusses the issue in more detail with Jess Wingard , as well as some less than favorable comments made by Burger King CEO, Bernardo Hees, about British women.

U.S. News

The Japanese Earthquake and resulting Tsunami have had a devastating impact on that country and surrounding areas. However, concerns are that the affects of the Tsunami would be felt as far away as the west coast of the United States and indeed, of even greater concern, the devastating impacts of a similar event on the San Andreas fault where the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate meet.

New Zealand sends Search and Rescue to Japan

New Zealand has sent an Urban Search and Rescue team as part of an Internationally organised humanitarian response to the Japanese Earthquake.

The question is, can New Zealand afford to send search and rescue so soon after the Christchurch Earthquake.
