German migrants in South Australia conjure up an image of settling and building up the Barossa Valley.
But, such a stereotypical view contradicts the varied contributions Germans made to the colony and state of South Australia. The focus of a new book, ‘Germans: Travellers, Settlers and their descendants in South Australia’ is the fine editorial work of Flinders historian, Associate Professor Peter Monteath.
In his explosive compilation, Professor Monteath’s work is certainly getting historians talking and he spoke to Jess Wingard about his new collection of essays and how he managed to capture the large contributions that Germans have made to this state.
