LIVE at Radio Adelaide: Fred Smith

Fred Smith in the studio with Tim Brunero

Fred Smith was the first Australian diplomat to be posted to Uruzgan to in July 2009.

His job was to build relationships with tribal leaders in order to improve cooperation and understanding between the local community and the Coalition forces – to act as a bridge between these two vastly different cultures.

He spent most of his 18 month tour in Uruzgan province on the multinational base in Tarin Kowt before moving out to a forward operating base in the remote Chora Valley.

Lucky for us he took his guitar.

Fred, armed with his guitar and a harmonica, dropped by the Radio Adelaide studios to dispense of a few stories and tell Tim about his days in Uruzgan.
