Live Export! It stirs the emotions ever since we all saw the seminal episode of “4 Corners” a few weeks ago.
The Federal Government has successfully put the issue to bed for many people by forcing some of the Indonesian abattoirs to clean up their act, but for some people that’s not enough.
The World Society for the Protection of Animals is launching a national campaign sure to catch the attention of the nation’s pollies again.
They’ve marshaled an army of animal rights activists across the nation to form themselves into teams based on their local federal members and get about informing their local community.
Two of their activists from the seat of Port Adelaide, Antonietta Sofia and Raylene Govett, spoke to Tim Brunero, and he asked them why they were launching the campaign. (WSPA facebook page)

Thanks WSPA for fighting for this worthy cause. We need to see an end to this barbaric trade.
Thanks for such an informative interview. Well done Antoinetta and Raelene for sharing this information with everyone. Live animal export MUST stop and you certainly put a well presented case for why it should cease. Not sure why the farmers and Government want it to continue when it is obvious that Australians are loosing their jobs and those with jobs are not making as much money as they could be by processing the meat here in Australia
Very impressive Antonietta and Raylene. I agree with everything you have said. Live exports have to end as soon as possible. It will be better for animals and it will save and create more jobs for Australians.
I am so glad that WSPA are helping to ensure that people have the facts about the LIVE EXPORT issues from Australia. I feel that this topic has been overshadowed by all the carbon tax issues so it has taken a back seat. This is just as important if not more important and now it is time Australians made a stand to stop this horrible unecessary torture of our livestock!! Come on Julia, do what the people want!!
Great work Antonietta and Raylene!! I’m sick of people who use the excuse ‘it’s not economically viable’, it was a relief to hear someone tell it how it truly is – more then doable and definitely viable. You provided a reasoned and rational argument, and anyone who listened can never plead ignorance again. Well done! Very inspiring!
Fantastic interview! Great to let the people of Adelaide know that the issue isn’t just for Animal Activists, it is an issue for Australians, as stopping the Live Export trade is a win for the Australian economy, and a win for Australian jobs!
Well done to these 2 ladies – live animal export is a terrible blight on Australia’s reputation, there is simply no justification for sending animals on these dreadful journeys. Those dying in transit are the “lucky” ones, considering the unspeakable horrors awaiting the survivors.
Caught the end of this interview going to work, and was interested enough to listen to it again on the web. Glad to see someone is finally talking economics.
Well done ladies! Thank you for getting the point across so clearly. This cruel trade must end!!!
Thank you to Antonietta, Raylene & WSPA for fighting for this worthy cause. The cruelty must STOP NOW!
Great interview – thanks for all the facts on the live export trade. I will email my MP as soon as possible asking him to take action !
Well done for refuting the tired old economic claims WSPA – its refreshing to see the facts regarding the impact on Australian jobs, Australian animals and the Australian economy from this outdated trade. The industry have endless money to keep spinning the lies – just take a look at liveexportcare.com to see the RIDICULOUS lies they are spinning and then take a look at their disclaimer to see how even they dont believe their own claims!! But as long as there are organisations that care enough to refute these lies then I will be listening.
Finally someone has stood up and told the truth about the economics of the situation. End the live export trade and keep the money and the jobs in Australia as well as improving the welfare of the animals
I agree live animal export is not only incredibly cruel and unethical but it doesn’t make economic sense. These politicians cannot continue to condone this level of cruelty as people who do have a compassionate bone in their body won’t tolerate it.
Great interview. We need more people like Raelene and Antonietta getting the information out into the community. Its very doable to stop this cruel trade and ensure that Australia doesn’t suffer because of it. Australia seems to think that we have the best animal welfare standards in the world in live exports, but in reality, we are comparing ourselves to countries such as Brazil. Rather than comparing ourselves to the worst countries, we should be comparing ourselves to the best countries, and these countries don’t live export.
Awesome work guys!!! Yes educating the public on this terrible issue is the way to go. Ban live export – it is cruel & unnecessary!!
I’m glad to see awareness is being raised about the issue, but I do not agree that live export should be banned. I believe the industry should be regulated and those regulations should be enforced. I’ve researched this issue thoroughly and am disappointed by a couple of the comments made by the guests, as they were very misleading. If you’re going to take such a strong stance on an issue you really need to make sure to guard what you say by ensuring it is accurate.
