Aboriginal Tent Embassy

Dr. Irene Watson is an Indigenous woman of Tanganekald and  Mein-tangkid peoples, the traditional owners of the Coorong and lower southeast of South Australia, a lawyer and academic.

She has published and lectured extensively on the construction of Aboriginal peoples’ identities in both domestic and international law.

Yesterday marked the 40th Anniversary of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy,  and Nunga Wangga’s Andrea Fraser caught up with Dr.Irene Watson, as she recalled that the very first Aboriginal Tent Embassy was in fact formed in Adelaide’s park lands in 1971.
