There are over 400 suburbs in Adelaide, but our newest one is causing the most controversy. The site of the Cheltenham Racecourse is becoming twelve hundred homes, and a battle is being fought over the name of the suburb.
The Charles Sturt Council has chosen St Clair, but sections of the community believe it should be called Cheltenham Park to recognize the area’s history as a training camp for SA’s diggers before heading off to fight in World War One.
Charles Sturt Mayor Kirsten Alexander spoke with Angus Randall, giving an overview of the Council’s decision.
