When you think of Woolworths, you think of cheery checkout operators, friendly fruit and veg workers and deli staff with broader smiles than their smiley fritz.
But how about poker machines? ‘Woolworths the fresh dough people’ doesn’t exactly ring a bell, does it?
You’ll be surprised to hear then that Woolworths currently own more poker machines than any other entity in Australia. Community advocacy organisation GetUp! was taken to Federal Court last week after trying to open debate with the company on pokies reform.
GetUp! National Communications Director, Rohan Wenn, joined Tim Brunero on the phone to share his thought’s on last week’s court action and explain what it means for Woolworths.
