Tweeting the Olympic Facebook

Having a public profile used to simply be being stalked by journalists and paparazzi, but new-media has added a new dimension. Athletes in particular use Twitter and Facebook to interact with their fans, but has it become too much of a distraction?

Australia loves Gold medals, and with a history of superstars in the Olympics like Dawn Fraser, Ian Thorpe and Cathy Freeman it seems we expect gold medals more than we celebrate them.

Crikey editor David Penberthy discussed traditional and new media as factors in athlete performance, and expectations in London 2012.
