Cigarette packets with the company logos are out, soon to be replaced by olive green plain packages with even larger affronting images. This is following the high court’s decision that tobacco plain packaging introduced by the Federal Government can proceed.
In another huge burn for smokers, the Adelaide City Council have endorsed that the Mall and all laneways leading off the Mall, including James Place, Gawler Place, Twin Street, Stephens Place and Charles Street, will now be smoke-free – a law that is sure to leave smokers smouldering in the corner.
It’s been a long fought battle for the Australian Council on Smoking and Health, and Professor Mike DAWB, president of ACOSH, who chaired the Federal Government’s expert committee that recommended plain packaging, joined Angus Randall on Breakfast to discuss.
