Big news this week in China has been the countries first space walk. Much more palatable than the milk contaminated with melamine that’s led to the death of 4 infants. But both were in the news in China as Alina reported to us this morning as well as China’s terracotta warriors that she saw while taking a tour through the country..

The Paralympics winds up today and Australia has been doing alright! Alina has an update on it for us, plus the second biggest festival has just taken place in China, The Moon Festival. And Alina found out you shouldn’t keep the moon cakes to yourself.

Third tallest building looks like a giant bottle opener!

Shanghai architects must be a creative lot. Their newest construction, the Shanghai World Financial Centre is the third tallest building in the world, and it’s shaped like a giant bottle opener (google it and you’ll see)

It’s 100 stories and eclipses it’s neighbor the Jin Mao Tower. Alina has been as far as the 87th floor of the Jin Mao, and can’t imagine what it’s like on the 100th floor of this new building.

When it rains… it REALLY RAINS!!

We’re suffering through a drought here, while in Shanghai it’s been absolutely bucketing down. And by the sound of it, it’s a pretty big bucket! Alina details the amount of rain and how she fared.

And there’s a building focus in Shanghai on the 2010 World Expo, and a lot of development is taking place in anticipation.

Living and working in Shanghai

Alina Eacott was with the Uni SA journalism team here at Radio Adelaide earlier this year writing and presenting the morning news bulletins. She’s working in Shanghai at the moment, with placements at a couple of newspapers as part of her journalism studies.

She will be joining us each week reporting on some of the stories making news locally. But this morning we got to know a little more about her and her first impressions of Shanghai.
