Fort Hood killer charged.

13 11 2009

Last Thursday terror raised its ugly head once again in the US.

This time at an army base in Fort Hood Texas

39 year old Army Psychiatrist, Major Nidal Malik Hassan, reportedly entered a medical facility within the army base and began shooting. Killing 13 and wounding 29 before he was incapacitated by a police officer.

Major Hassan is currently recuperating in hospital and is headed for military trial where he could face the death penalty.

The media frenzy over the incident perhaps matches the public shock and sadness.

The question that is emerging is whether US Intelligence failed or ignored the signs that led ultimately to this bloody massacre.

The US – climate change skeptics or combaters?

30 10 2009

Last Friday we reported on the protests happening not only in Adelaide but around the world, as part of International Day of Climate Action.

Thousands of people rallied to try and foster an agreement between world leaders that something needs to be done about climate change.

350.org was the organisation behind it all, with 350 standing for their target of 350 parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, instead of around 390.

Well just like in Australia, the issue of climate change is currently being hotly debated in America.

James O’Donnell from Spying on America speaks with Clare Hesketh on a similar idea to our proposed ETS, that’s trying to get passed through America’s government…

Still not happy Obama

16 10 2009

As most of you would be aware, the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 was awarded to American President, Barack Obama last week, after serving only nine months in office, and just 11 days, when he was nominated for it earlier in the year.

Well not surprisingly this puzzled and in some cases angered a lot of people, who, even if a fan of Obama, questioned the idea that he was given the prize for his potential to create peace, and not on actual results.

Spying on America correspondent James O’Donnell speaks about America’s reaction to the win.

No love for Obama

9 10 2009

When Barack Obama was elected as President last year, more than anything, he said he would bring change to the United States… and we believed him.

Not even a year has gone past, and it seems Americans are already losing their faith in the new leader, as they grow impatient that he hasn’t implemented the healthcare reform, aren’t happy with the bailout and confused as to why we’re still at war in the Middle East.

However it seems they’re not impressed with the alternative political party, The Republicans, either.

Friday presenter Clare Hesketh discusses with Spying on America correspondent James O’Donnell, the fact that late night comedy shows seem to be giving the President a hard time, while we all thought they’d run out of gas after Bush left…

One year on from Lehman Brothers collapse

America’s changing attitude to their troops in Afghanistan

11 09 2009

A few weeks ago we heard about the presidential election in Afghanistan but several headlines have again put Afghanistan front and centre on the American radar.

For the first time since the war’s inception the majority of Americans are against the war in the region and polls have shown nearly half of Americans support reducing the number of American troops in the country.

Peter discusses with Spying on America’s James O’Donnell, why a change in attitude towards troops in Afghanistan has suddenly occurred…
