St. Vinnies CEO Sleepout

Last Thursday night CEOs from across Adelaide braved the freezing cold and rain to take part in the St. Vinnies CEO Sleepout.

Homelessness is a continuing problem in Australia. There is an estimated 100,000 homeless people sleeping on the streets every night. 1,000 of those are in Adelaide.

This annual event aims to raise both money and awareness within the community. 

The CEOs spent one rough night at the Adelaide Zoo to experience first-hand what it’s like to sleep on the street.

Peter Malinauskas, SA Branch Secretary of the Shop, Distributive & Allied Employees Association spoke to Jess Wingard about his experience at the CEO Sleepout.

Exploitation of young workers in the retail industry

The Greens are launching a Facebook campaign over concerns that young workers are being exploited, especially during the busy Christmas season.

Many young employees are working additional hours without pay, not receiving over-time and are not being treated with respect.

To comment on these concerns, Peter spoke with Peter Malinauskas from the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employee Association, who represent over 230,000 retail workers.
