The children’s nursery rhyme, “Old MacDonald Had A Farm” is one that has been around since 1917. It tells the story of a man and his farm animals.
Of course, the nursery rhyme does not tell the real story of the treatment of Australian animals when they are exported to overseas abattoirs. However, if the iconic tune did, do you think that would be something to sing about?
Since 4 Corners exposed the live trade, with the shocking footage of Australian cattle being slaughtered in Indonesia, the horrific scenes have sparked a nationwide opposition to the cruel trade and put pressure on the government to act.
Today is the final day before the Labor Government is expected to vote on a motion that, if passed, could end the cruel slaughter of fully conscious animals without stunning.
Activist group Animals Australia has been at the forefront of the investigation and the Executive Director, Glenys Oogjes, spoke to Tim Brunero.
