Our Japan correspondent Toby Slade joined the show today to touch on recent reports on the capture of an Aum Cult fugitive after 17 years on the run. A new Japanese Defence Minister has been appointed and many are arguing his parliamentary credentials.

In other news, Tokyo girl group AKB48 has sold over 1.17 million copies of their latest singleManatsu no Sounds Good! on just the first day of release. Along with the single comes a ballot form for the upcoming AKB48 election, which will let fans have a voice in deciding who – of the 64 members – fronts the group.

The worlds biggest TV has also been developed in Japan, reportedly offering 6 times the definition of regular HD televisions.
