Jack Charles is nearly 70 and about to perform at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. He is an acclaimed Aboriginal theatre and television performer, busker and former heroin addict with more stories to tell than most.
He was separated from his mother at age 2 and has had numerous stints in jail, but has carried a life-long love for theatre.
Jack Charles was the founder of the first Aboriginal theatre company in Melbourne and also the first Aboriginal person to appear on colour television in Australia.
The Nunga Wangga team spoke to Jack about his cabaret show, which will focus on songs from his widely acclaimed theatre production Jack Charles Versus the Crown.
