Kaurna comeback

The Kaurna language had been all but forgotten for the average Australian up until the 1990s, but today especially the dialect of South Australia’s Kaurna people is experiencing a resurgence.

Professor Rob Amery of the University of Adelaide researches Australian Indigenous language, their uses, maintenance and revival, and has been working with Aboriginal communities since 1980.
We spoke with Professor Amery this morning about Kaurna 101 – an introduction to Karuan language being held at Adelaide University today at 2pm – and local Adeladian enthusiasm to learn and appreciate the Kaurna language.
