A friend for the journey

Have you ever travelled overseas to a non-english speaking country? Somewhere you hadn’t been before? Somewhere completely unfamiliar? Imagine being forced into that situation, but without the luxury of being able to come home again.

*Moustaq came to Australia alone at the age of 16 with no money, no qualifications and no understanding of our foreign culture. But thanks to ‘Fuse’ Moustaq was able to build a relationship and gain support in starting a new life here.

Fuse is a program hosted by Baptist Care SA that takes volunteers from around Adelaide and sees them mentor people with a refugee background as they face the challenges of life in a new culture.

Bryan Hughes is the coordinator of Fuse and he spoke to Tim Brunero about the difference South Australians are making to the life of new Australians.
