Syria – from bad to worse?

The Red Cross have formally defined the conflict in Syria as a full-scale civil war, but as battles rage across districts in Damascus, major players in the International community are still divided over whom to back.

Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the west of blackmailing it into changing its position on Bashar Al Assad, while government troops face continuing accusations of atrocities.

Tim Brunero asked Curtin University’s Dr Alexey Muraviev to explain the situation.
