The Premier’s apology for forced adoption

Between the 1940s and 1970s, it is estimated that thousands of mothers had their children taken from them by state authorities because those mothers were not married or they did not have basic economic support.

The State Government, with the support of the parliament, has finally set about putting one of South Australia’s darkest periods to rest, with a formal apology delivered by Premier Jay Weatherill in the state Lower House yesterday.

Tim Brunero spoke to the Premier, and later, author Evelyn Robinson this morning.
