While recipients of Newstart allowance might live a modest lifestyle on $35 per day there are certainly people in the world living off much less, though with the cost of living in Australia rising it seems change is imminent.

With news emerging that the Business Council of Australia is seeking to raise the fortnightly Newstart allowance for Australians on welfare, it ‘s brought about issues of unemployment, skilled labour, the minimum wage and a modern cost of living.

CEO of the Business Council of Australia, Jennifer Westacott, spoke to Tim Brunero this morning about possible plans to raise the welfare allowance and minimum wage.
