Asylum Seeker Compensation; A conversation for the nation

Imagine coming to a new country, escaping persecution, famine or war, only to be  detained and abused physically and mentally in the place you’d hoped to be your new home.

As a result of this abuse some asylum seekers are now being compensated by the federal government for their time in detention, with the average payout being $160,000.

Angus Randall spoke to Ian Rintoul from the Refugee Action Collective who has spent over a decade fighting for the rights of refugees.
