Some interesting statistics released this week have suggested a growing number of Australians are owning and using firearms. New figures show in the last financial year that more than 85,000 firearms – including handguns, rifles, shotguns and military weapons – have been imported to the country (a stark contrast to the 39,000 recorded in 2006).
The almost alarming statistic could give us some insight into Australia’s own gun culture.
This morning we spoke with John Crook, President of Gun Control Australia, about what the rise in gun imports might suggest and just how hard (or easy) it is to obtain your own gun license.
