Mural erected to commemorate stillborn babies

These days when a woman faces the heart breaking experience of having a stillborn baby, she is given the choice to meet, hold and say goodbye.

However this option was not always available with former practice meaning  mothers were not given closure, and remained unaware of where their babies were laid to rest.

This week the Holdfast Bay Council officially opened a mural to commemorate a number of stillborn babies found to be buried in the Brighton Cemetery.

Bill Walter was joined in studio by the Mayor of Holdfast Bay, Ken Rolland, to discuss the recognition and the history behind the practice.
